Summer vacation to Carpinteria!

Kevin, Calan and I headed off to Grandma's beach house for the weekend this week. Calan delighted us all by learning how to hold onto his feet and by the end of the trip, he was even trying to suck his toes! He loved the new toys Grandma introduced him to, we were all amazed at how quickly he worked out how to manipulate the lever on his little Fisher Price roll-a-ball, to release the balls and turn on the lights and music. We took him to see the dog parade, my personal favourite was the Calamity Jane doggy in a covered wagon! We also took Calan to the beach for the first time, he seemed very intrigued by the sight and sound of the waves and experienced the feel of warm sand on his feet. On the way home, we stopped off at our friends BBQ where Calan saw horses, chickens and listened to everyone playing their Old Timey music. He slept all of the way to Carpinteria and most of the way home- we were really happy for him as he can become very distressed in the car seat. Kevin and I worked hard to keep Calan to his normal routines while we were away, taking all of his familiar things and sticking to nap routines. This worked realy well and Calan was happy and relaxed, therefore so were we! It was a lovely weekend.

I love my purple hippo!

Calan turns 20 weeks old.

Calan is 20 weeks old now and what a busy time we've had!

Calan has started to suck on his bottom lip this week and has been so smiley, I must have taken hundreds of photos! He laughs every time he's tired for some reason, really enjoying peek a boo and kisses on his tummy. He is pulling his little knees up under his tummy when he lies on his playmats and has just noticed the digital photo frame in our bedroom, watching it intently. He has mastered his door bouncer, boinging away with real enthusiasm and he is placing both hands on the table top when he is on our laps, almost as if he is playing the piano! He receieved some great new clothes and toys from his Gran and Grandad, as did mummy, so it was like Christmas!
On Tuesday, my friend Alissa and her son Atticus, (born the day before Calan) came with us to the library, where we had fun selecting new books for our Summer program for lap readers (read 20 books, get a goody bag!).
Friday was parent participation class. Due to his furlough days (I call them family days), Daddy came along too and had a great time. Calan slept through a lot of the class, nursing and napping, as did Atticus, but us parents got lots of good info!
Later that same day we went to the Mission Plaza in SLO, to watch one of the free Summer concerts. Our friends' band, "Cuesta Ridge Mountain Boys", were playing. We met up with lots of other friends and had a really sociable, fun evening. Calan did so well, playing on a blanket, being walked around and nursing/napping to his little hearts content.
Saturday saw us back in SLO for a friends pre-school graduation party, where we had a lot of fun, chatting with parents and watching the older kids splashing about in the pool. Again, Calan did us proud, watching, nursing and napping happily.
On Sunday we met Alissa and Atticus at Avilla Valley Barn, where we wandered around the gift shops, sampled the yummy baking and enjoyed the sunshine and the babes.
A really lovely week, with some great memories and exciting changes in our little guy!

Happy 4th of July !

Hi all, hope you had a great holiday weekend!

Kevin, Calan and I had a lot of fun, we went to Cayucos for the parade. It was a big deal, attended by hundreds and hundreds of people, with some great floats and costumes. It was lovely and sunny and a perfect start to our holiday. Calan napped a little and watched a little. He was very frightenend of the revving engines of the hot rods, but not too concerned by the noisy bagpipes, good lad! We also hung our new flag. Apparently the design was the first one flown by the rebel forces upon independence from the rascally Brits! In the evening, Kevin lit some sparklers for Calan to look at, but he was more disturbed by the smoke than excited by the colours! Today we have friends coming over and Kevin is brewing up some English ale and cooking up Brats on the BBQ.

Thanks for checking in, do leave us a comment, we love to read them,

Bryony, Kevin and Calan xx
